The U.S. Supreme Court has agreed to allow two conservation groups to intervene in Utah cases involving state efforts to have dirt washes, seasonal streambeds, and possibly even cattle trails and hiking paths declared roads across federal lands.

In an effort to help control the spread of Covid-19, backcountry campsite reservations for Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado will be taken online this year, beginning March 1.

A crooked and rugged stretch of Appalachia, with a long-honored “national river” at its center that flows unusually from south to north, the New River Gorge will henceforth be known as a "national park and preserve." The rebranding clearly is a nod to national park economics, though that's not to say the New River isn't worthy of its new status.

The country's ongoing battle with Covid-19 has led the Appalachian Trail Conservancy to urge thru-hikers to postpone their 2021 trek along the iconic footpath.
