Interior Department Doubles Staff In Ethics Office

Interior Secretary David Bernhardt has called for the agency to double the number of career ethics officials it has on staff, and to unify Interior's 13 disparate bureau programs into a centrally-managed office. The order he issued Wednesday is designed to streamline the reporting structure for ethics personnel, establishes the Departmental Ethics Office, and clarifies roles and responsibilities for department’s employees.

Glacier Point Road at Yosemite National Park is getting to the point where it needs some serious rehabilitation, and park staff currently are looking at having that work done in 2021, which means the road will be closed during the visitor season that year. To explain the process, Yosemite staff have scheduled a public meeting for August 28.

In the wake of a report stating that nearly 30,000 species worldwide are at risk of going extinct, the Trump administration on Monday announced changes to the Endangered Species Act that opponents warned would weaken protections for species in danger of being lost. U.S. Sen. Tom Udall, calling the changes an "evisceration of environmental protections," said Congress needs to "consider stopping these regulations by any means."
