Flamingo Visitor Center At Everglades National Park Taking Flight

On a recent morning in Everglades National Park, the predominant sound at the Flamingo Visitor Center wasn’t park rangers giving a lecture or visitors shopping for souvenirs, but the buzzing of electric saws, hammers, and other construction equipment. This park building—an icon of the National Park Service’s ambitious Mission 66 program—is now undergoing a complete rehabilitation and is expected to reopen to visitors in summer 2021.

Army Corps Says No "Clear Evidence" Of Adverse Impacts From Oil Exploration At Big Cypress

While the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers said Tuesday that it hasn't found any "clear evidence" of adverse impacts from an oil company's exploratory work in Big Cypress National Preserve, an outside consultant who visited the preserve in March to examine the work has found a number of significant impacts to the landscape that could remain for years if not properly addressed.

National Park Service Working To Envision The 21st Century Campground

Travel the National Park System long enough and, if you're a camper, you're bound to develop a few favorite campgrounds. Elk Mountain Campground at Wind Cave National Park in South Dakota certainly is one of mine, and the Needles Campground at Canyonlands National Park in Utah is another. They are clean campgrounds, with well-spaced sites, tent pads, and decent restroom facilities. But not all campgrounds are created equal, and not all campers look for the same things when it comes to pitching camp. Which is why the National Park Service is working to envision the 21st century campground.
