Parks Canada will kick off Canada Day celebrations with its annual sunrise event at Signal Hill National Historic Site.

The site boasts stunning views of the North Atlantic Ocean and celebrates military battles and technological triumphs. It's in St. John’s, the capital of Newfoundland and Labrador. The province is at the eastern edge of Canada and has its own time zone, which is half an hour ahead of the rest of the country, so it is the first to greet each day.

The sunrise event is slated for 6 a.m. on July 1 at Signal Hill’s upper parking lot. Joanne Thompson, Member of Parliament for St. John's East, is expected to bring greetings on behalf of Steven Guilbeault, Minister of Environment and Climate Change and Minister responsible for Parks Canada.
