Drakes Beach At Point Reyes National Seashore Closed For Restoration Work

The Drakes Beach area of Point Reyes National Seashore is closed to the public to allow restoration work to proceed/NPS

The Drakes Beach area of Point Reyes National Seashore in California is closed through August 31 so restoration work can be performed. The Drakes Beach Road will be closed at its junction with Sir Frances Drake Boulevard.

The road closure is part of the park's two-year Federal Highway Administration and County of Marin road improvement project.

During this time, the wetland area that was paved over in the 1960s to create the western section of the Drakes Beach parking lot will be restored to its natural hydrologic function. The Drakes Beach parking lot will also be reconfigured to maximize the remaining available space and to create a more efficient flow of traffic.

Many areas of the park remain open for all to enjoy. Visitors are reminded to recreate responsibly—please bring your own water, snacks, and hand sanitizer, and please pick up your trash.

Coastal weather can change quickly, so it is best to wear layers and check the weather forecast before leaving your home. Remember to take only pictures and practice Leave No Trace. For current road and trail conditions, visit the park's website and social media.
