Apostle Islands National Lakeshore is celebrating its 50th anniversary/Jon Okerstrom

Mark the 50th anniversary of Apostle Islands National Lakeshore in Wisconsin by registering for a virtual Resource Stewardship Symposium on March 30-31.

The symposium will feature 26 presenters sharing the rich story of the Apostle Islands - from archaeology, cultural resources, and traditional ecological knowledge to water quality, fisheries, fire, plants, wetlands, birds, amphibians, and mammals to climate change and innovative youth programs. Participation in this special 50th Anniversary virtual event is free, but registration is required.  The registration deadline is March 28. To register, go to: Apostle Islands Stewardship Symposium - Northland College

“Our partners made this symposium possible through staff and funding support,” said Superintendent Lynne Dominy. “Northland College is hosting the event while the Friends of Apostle Islands National Lakeshore is sponsoring it with business and community partners.

The official park anniversary started in September 2020 when the park was established 50 years ago. Most events will be virtual and designed to bring the lakeshore into people’s homes so they can stay connected to the park and share their own personal experiences even from their living rooms. The celebration is rooted in the community and involves interested organizations, businesses, and individuals around the lakeshore.

For more information about the Apostle Islands 50th Anniversary, visit the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore website at www.nps.gov/apis. To join the park's conversations, become a sponsor, or partner with “Friends” to create an anniversary logoed product, visit the website for Friends of the Apostle Islands at www.friendsoftheapostleislands.org. The anniversary will also include an online dialogue where personal stories, photos, art, and ideas can be shared on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and local websites.

Support National Parks Traveler

Your support for the National Parks Traveler comes at a time when news organizations are finding it hard, if not impossible, to stay in business. Traveler's work is vital. For nearly two decades we've provided essential coverage of national parks and protected areas. With the Trump administration’s determination to downsize the federal government, and Interior Secretary Doug Burgum’s approach to public lands focused on energy exploration, it’s clear the Traveler will have much to cover in the months and years ahead. We know of no other news organization that provides such broad coverage of national parks and protected areas on a daily basis. Your support is greatly appreciated.
