Body Recovered From Colorado River In Grand Canyon National Park

A body recovered from the Colorado River deep within Grand Canyon National Park is believed to be that of a California man who went missing from a commercial river trip late last month.

Park staff say the body, thought to be of 66-year-old Francis Schwab, of Healdsburg, was recovered Wednesday from the river below Lava Falls near river mile 181. The body was transported to the canyon rim by helicopter and transferred to the Coconino County Medical Examiner.

Schwab was last seen on June 28 near National Canyon at river mile 167. He was reported missing after a sightseeing stop at National Canyon. The National Park Service conducted a multi-day search and rescue operation. 

The Coconino County Medical Examiner will confirm positive identification. An investigation into the incident is being conducted by the National Park Service and the Coconino County Medical Examiner.
