Rob Wallace nominated to Interior post overseeing national parks/HO

Rob Wallace, a Wyoming native with a long connection to national parks and Washington, D.C., politics, has been nominated to serve as assistant secretary for Fish, Wildlife, and Parks within the Interior Department.

If confirmed, Wallace would bring 45 years of experience, having served as head of congressional affairs for the National Park Service, on Capitol Hill, and in the private sector.

“Rob Wallace has a long track record of leadership on National Park Service and Fish and Wildlife Service issues,” said Interior Secretary David Bernhardt. “He will be a fantastic asset to the Department of the Interior, and I urge the Senate to confirm him quickly.”

Wallace currently is focused on working with ranchers, energy companies, conservationists, and regulators to balance the needs of conservation and energy development in the West. He previously served as manager of government relations for GE Energy, where he co-chaired the Government Relations Operating Council, which coordinated the company’s energy advocacy throughout the world.

Earlier in his career he worked as a seasonal ranger at Grand Teton National Park, a stint that saw him involved with search-and-rescue activities, backcountry patrols in winter, and law-enforcement duties. During the 1970s, he joined former U.S. Sen. Malcolm Wallop's (R-WY) office, and rose to chief of staff as well as GOP staff director for the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee.

In the 1980s he was the Park Service's liaison with Congress. He currently is on the board of directors of the Grand Teton National Park Foundation.

“I am pleased the administration nominated Rob Wallace to be the assistant secretary of interior for fish, wildlife and parks,” said Wyoming Senator Mike Enzi. “Rob is a Wyoming native and has extensive experience in public service and in working with the National Park Service. It is important to fill positions like this with qualified people who understand the West.”

Past speculation saw Wallace's name come up for the job of director of National Park Service.

He can't get to DOI soon enough!

Outstanding!  Welcome back.  It will be great to have Rob in this critical role for the NPS.  He knows us well and understands our responsibilities as wise stewards to preserve, protect and provide for the enjoyment of the National Parks.  Look forward to seeing him at DOI!

So much for draining the "swamp" more DC insiders appointed to keep stale ideas in motion.

I don't know the guy, but he sounds like he has good credentials --- I just really hesitate to jump on the bandwagon of someone that Bernhardt endorses.

I Know Rob Wallace.  He is the absolutly best choice.
