California Man Falls To His Death From South Rim At Grand Canyon National Park

A 23-year-old man has fallen to his death below Mather Point in Grand Canyon National Park/NPS

A California man has fallen several hundred feet to his death below Mather Point on the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park.

A park release said Jamison Whittaker, 23, of Irvine, California, fell shortly after 4:30 p.m. Monday. Park rangers responded and located a body several hundred feet below the point. The Park Service helicopter and a technical rescue team also responded. 

An investigation into the incident is being conducted by the National Park Service in cooperation with the Coconino County Medical Examiner. No additional information is available at this time.
