Hike To The Point Bonita Lighthouse At Golden Gate National Recreation Area

Take a hike to the Point Bonita Lighthouse at Golden Gate NRA/NPS

You can mix an invigorating walk along the Pacific Coast with some history by joining a hike October 4 to the Point Bonita Lighthouse at Golden Gate National Recreation Area in California.

Located at the southern tip of the Marin Headlands at the mouth to San Francisco Bay, the lighthouse went into service at this location in 1870. It's still operational today and maintained by the U.S. Coast Guard.

The lighthouse is reached by a half-mile trail that is very steep in parts. On the hike to the light, you'll traverse the point's wild landscape and gain insights to the geology and history of the light.

The tour is scheduled to run from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. If you want to attend, meet at the Point Bonita docents along the lighthouse trail. If you can't make this date's tour, similar ones occur every Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
