Yellowstone National Park's Lone Star Fire was nearing 1,000 acres in coverage on Sunday, drawing additional crews to help protect resources in the Old Faithful complex 3 miles away.

Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park will host the first Science and History Week virtual speaker series September 21-24. Topics include land restoration, wildlife research, and historical park figures. All virtual events are free and open to the public. Participants can register online to watch each live presentation.

Downed trees, roof damage, and utility damage were inflicted on Cane River Creole National Historical Park by Hurricane Laura. It's expected to take until early next week for necessary repairs to be made to allow the park to reopen.

Big Bend National Park could grow by 6,100 acres under legislation introduced to Congress by U.S. Rep. Will Hurd of Texas.
