Fort Scott National Historic Site in Kansas will commemorate the Civil War and how it shaped the United States by presenting the 36th Annual Civil War Encampment on Saturday and Sunday, April 21 and 22.

Appomattox Courthouse National Historical Park in Virginia this coming Saturday will honor those emancipated by the Civil War with 4,600 luminaries.

National Park Service staff at Oregon Caves National Monument and Preserve is soliciting public input on how to manage nearly 4,100 acres that recently were added to their park, and for comment on a Wild and Scenic River Study for five streams in the park.

Four national parks in Maryland and the District of Columbia recently concluded annual operations to reduce overabundant white-tailed deer. Two Civil War battlefields, a 5,810-acre hardwood mountain forest, and a national park in the heart of the nation’s capital donated more than 14,000 pounds of venison to local non-profits that serve those in need.
