The National Park Service will temporarily close Panorama Point at Arches National Park in Utah beginning the week of August 13 for a construction project. The viewpoint will be closed Monday through Thursday weekly, possibly through the end of October.

As the wildfire season creeps into the dog days of August, fires continue to impact national parks, with the Yosemite Valley remaining closed to all and a blaze in Grand Canyon National Park affecting a North Rim road and some trails there.

A night sky program will be held at Spirit Mound Historic Prairie along the Missouri National Recreation River on Saturday beginning at 9 p.m. Once the light fades, the event kicks off with a tour of the night sky, followed by star and planet viewing through several telescopes.

Whiskeytown National Recreation Area, a rumpled landscape in northern California where the National Park Service and U.S. Forest Service share management responsibilities over 42,500 acres, has closed due to the Carr Fire with no reopening date on the horizon.
