Longs Peak Is A Popular, But Potentially Deadly, Rocky Mountain National Park Destination

When searchers this week headed into the Longs Peak region of Rocky Mountain National Park to look for a missing hiker, it was the fourth such hunt in that part of the park this year. Though there are other search-and-rescue missions in the park, those in the Longs Peak area seem to garner the most attention.

Rangers encountered deep snow and high winds Tuesday as they searched the Longs Peak area of Rocky Mountain National Park for a cadet candidate from the U.S. Air Force Academy who hasn't been heard from since late Friday. It marked at least the fourth time this year that a major search-and-rescue mission was called out to that part of the park.

Most Of Park Loop Road At Acadia National Park Closes For Winter

The Park Loop Road at Acadia National Park in Maine has closed to motor vehicles for the season, with the exception of the two-mile section from the Sand Beach entrance station to Otter Cliff Road (accessible via Schooner Head Road in Bar Harbor) and the Jordan Pond area (accessible via Jordan Pond Road in Seal Harbor).

National Park Foundation And Subaru Of America Support Waste Reduction Efforts In National Parks

It’s the season of gratitude, and once again the National Park Foundation is thankful for support from Subaru for national parks through its annual Subaru Share the Love Event that runs through January 2. Now in its 11th year, the event has raised more than $7 million for national parks, with 2017 proceeds enabling the National Park Foundation to contribute nearly $2 million to national park waste reduction and public awareness efforts.

Wilderness Road Campground At Cumberland Gap National Historical Park To Remain Open This Winter

The Wilderness Road Campground in Cumberland Gap National Historical Park in Virginia will remain open this winter with loops A and B available for camping. Loop A does not have electricity while Loop B provides 20, 30 and 50 amp hook-ups. Water is centrally located at the dumping station near the campground entrance station.
