National Park Service Working To Reopen Parks Closed By Hurricane Florence

Two units of the National Park System that were battered by Hurricane Florence remained closed Wednesday, while a third had partially reopened, according to the National Park Service. Working to get them fully open was an incident management team manned by 28 Park Service employees from 14 parks.

Public Input Sought Regarding Mine Operations On Death Valley’s Border

The operators of a gold mine located just outside Death Valley National Park’s western border have proposed modifications to their plan of operations. Most of the proposed changes relate to mining activities on lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management, but the plan also includes modifications to the mine’s piping of water from Sourdough Spring within the park.

But we shouldn't strive to sanitize the parks of those risks. Wildlife are among the many incredible aspects of the parks. They must remain so, for their majesty, for what they bring to the ecosystems, and to remind us that we are not alone at the top of the food chain.
