Talk about a potpourri of national parks coverage.

With warm weather becoming more prevalent, it's time for crews to put the cables up on the shoulder of Half Dome in Yosemite National Park. They are scheduled to be in place this Friday.

It wasn't much more than a goat path. Or, more appropriate for the setting, a desert bighorn sheep path. With the wind swirling about us and a lapis lazuli sky overhead, we played connect-the-dots with the small stacked cairns that looped across the sandstone amphitheater and took us higher and higher. This was Canyonlands National Park at its best.

Teams of rangers next week will begin rotating through Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument in Arizona and Amistad National Recreation Area in Texas to help with border control.
