Study Shows Pikas At Risk From Drier Air As Well As Warmer Climates

Pikas, those tiny creatures that announce the intrusion of strangers to their territory with a squeaky bleat that sounds somewhat like "eeek," are known to suffer from warm temperatures. Now scientists studying these cousins to rabbits in the North Cascades National Park Complex say drier air conditions can be harmful, too, by stunting the growth of plants they rely upon.

Spring Turkey Hunt At Cape Cod National Seashore

The spring Eastern wild turkey hunt will take place in Massachusetts starting April 29. This is the eighth season that spring turkey hunting will be permitted in Cape Cod National Seashore. The 2019 national seashore turkey hunting season runs from April 29 through May 18, which is the first three weeks of the state’s four-week turkey season.

Panel To Discuss Smokies 900-Miler Trail Challenge

One of the best ways to explore a national park is on foot, and few parks offer a trail system as extensive as Great Smoky Mountains National Park’s nearly 900 miles. On Tuesday, February 19 at 7 p.m., Friends of the Smokies and Nantahala Brewing’s Asheville Outpost will host a panel discussion featuring three individuals who have completed every single trail in the park – also known at the ‘Smokies 900-Miler Challenge.’

Sagamore Hill National Historic Site Regroups After Loss Of Visitor Center To Fire

At approximately 8:45 on the morning of December 24, 2018, a fire started in Sagamore Hill’s Visitor Center and spread through the main part of the building, causing extensive damage to the park’s primary contact station, Eastern National bookstore and office, employee office and breakroom, and public restroom facilities.
