The application period for the 2017 road lottery program at Denali National Park and Preserve will open May 1. The road lottery takes place in September and allows up to 400 cars per day to be on the western portion of the park road, which is usually closed to most private vehicles.
The National Park Service has awarded a contract to Parkeon, USA, to install parking meters on streets and parking areas on the National Mall. Installation of the 90 multi-space pay stations will begin on or about May 1, with operation and enforcement of the meters scheduled for June 12. The new metered parking is intended to create more frequent turnover of limited parking spaces; encourage the use of public transit; and provide revenue to create and improve affordable visitor transportation.

After five days of extensive searching, the National Park Service on Thursday reduced the scale of the search for two hikers who went missing at Grand Canyon National Park on Saturday, April 15. The hikers are identified as Lou Ann Merrell, 62, and Jackson Standefer, 14.
