Climbers with an eye on some of the peaks in Denali National Park and Preserve have a great tool just a few clicks away to check on the latest conditions.
New this climbing season the park staff is maintaining a mountaineering blog that includes field reports with current statistics and route conditions. Simply titled Denali Dispatches, the site "contains periodic feature stories on life in the Alaska Range, as well as almost-daily field reports containing mountain statistics for Denali and Foraker, weather observations, and route conditions on Denali and other climbing areas of the Alaska Range."
For instance, this past Tuesday the blog contained a story about heightened avalanche conditions and the need for two climbers, hemmed in by avalanche conditions on Mount Dickey, to be airlifted to safety.
The site also keeps track of the number of climbers out in the field, completed climbs, summits tallied, and percentage of successful climbs. There's also a weather report, route conditions, and where climbing rangers are. And, of course, some great photos!
