Research can be a time-consuming, frustrating part of writing stories or preparing that report for class. If your subject is national parks, however, there are two websites you definitely should bookmark and refer to frequently for answers to your searches.
npshistory.com and parkscanadahistory.com are two rich repositories for official documents and studies pertaining to national parks in the United States and Canada. Run by two gentleman -- Harry Butowsky and Randall Payne -- these sites are updated monthly with documents pertaining to park history, agency history, natural resources, and various other documents that have been produced on national parks.
The sites are not associated with either the National Park Service or Parks Canada, nor do they receive any federal funding; they are are enduring passion for the parks these two men hold.
In researching Sunset Crater National Monument, npshistory.com was able to produce documents I couldn't locate anywhere else. Of course, you don't need to be working on a specific project to check out these sites; you just need to be curious about parks.
These sites aren't supported by advertising. Reach out to these gentlemen at [email protected] to find out where you can send a donation to support their important work.
