Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore Campground Opens March 30

Share

The 2018 camping season at Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore’s Dunewood Campground starts on Friday, March 30, and runs through October 31. This National Park Service campground features 53 conventional drive-in sites and 12 walk-in sites. There are no electrical hookups, but there are modern restrooms and showers available. All sites are $25 per night.

Lake Michigan is located just 1.5 miles north of the campground and several beach access points are within easy driving distance. A gas station and convenience store are located a quarter-mile north of the campground at the intersection of U.S. Highway 12 and Broadway. A South Shore Railroad station, with passenger service to Chicago and South Bend, is located on Broadway, a quarter-mile north of the campground.

To prevent movement of the Emerald Ash Borer, which kills ash trees, purchase wood from one of several local sources near the campground rather than bringing it from home.

The campground features a self-registration, automated fee machine. This machine accepts credit, debit and pre-paid gift cards (Visa, MasterCard and Discover Only), and allows quick and convenient check-in at the campground 24 hours a day. No cash accepted. Sites are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. With this automated fee machine, you can pay for your entire stay of up to14 days at one time.

For more information on Dunewood Campground and its regulations, contact the national lakeshore’s information desk at 219-395-1882 or check the park’s website.
