Where's your next national park vacation? Virgin Islands National Park, perhaps?/NPS, Murray Shoemaker
Where do you turn when you start thinking about a national park vacation? Here at National Parks Traveler, we're working to make your homework a little easier.
Regular readers no doubt have noticed our A Day In The Park series that debuted with 2018. These pieces are intended to provide you with an overview of a specific park, a teaser of sorts to get you to think, "Yeah, that's an interesting place with some fun things to experience!"
These articles contain details on what you can do or see in the park, a look at some of the park's unique aspects (whether geologic, cultural, or historical), and maybe some hints on good trails to explore.
We're trying to roll out at least two of these articles a week. While there are 417 units of the National Park System, we're tackling the 59 "national parks" initially. After they're covered, we'll move on to other units, whether they be monuments, parkways, military parks, whatever.
To help you keep track of these stories, we've added a hot link to a page called A Day In The Park that you can find in the drop-down menu below the Your National Parks button on the menu bar. As each new article is rolled out, we'll add it to this page so you can easily find the individual pieces of the series as time goes by.
We have a few more changes in mind that we think will help your navigation of the Traveler website easier and more interesting. They're still in the development stages, but shouldn't be too far off.
With that in mind, please consider a donation to the cause. When you compare the Traveler to other things in life, it's really quite the bargain. Think about it: A coffee from your favorite barista probably runs at least $4.50, and you probably have a few of those a week at least. Movie tickets are hovering around $10 apiece. Go through a car wash and that will set you back about $6.50.
Many of those things are one and done.
At the Traveler, we archive all our articles, so you can dig years back to read stories from long ago. One story that amazes us with its shelf life, so to speak, is on the Hidden Hall of Records at Mount Rushmore National Memorial that the Traveler featured back in July 2007. Every now and then someone will mention it on Reddit, and we'll see a landslide of traffic to the story.
The point is, supporting the Traveler helps support a library crammed with national park news and features, and helps us continually add to that library. So please, skip a few coffees or a couple movies and contribute to the Traveler by clicking on one of the buttons below.
It's tax-deductible and you'll thank yourself for helping to preserve this content for you, your family, your friends, and strangers you don't know but who also love the parks and the outdoors.
