Join Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens To Celebrate International Migratory Bird Day

As a sign of the Anacostia River’s improving health, more birds are returning to feed and nest, and the natural green space of Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens in Washington, D.C., is an important stopover on their migration routes. Come experience and celebrate the park’s first International Migratory Bird Day on Saturday from 7 a.m.- 2 p.m.

Even if you don’t know a hawk from a heron, you can join a bird walk, educational bird games, enjoy arts and crafts, raptor shows and more. Guided bird walks will allow you to walk in the footsteps of beloved D.C. ornithologists Elliott Coues and Paul Bartsch and naturalist John Burroughs, whose work at Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens helped shape their profession.

“When you can stand on the banks of the Anacostia River and watch bald eagles and egrets, it’s thrilling, and you know that as a community we’re doing something right,” Superintendent Tara Morrison said. “I hope everyone will come make their own discoveries on International Migratory Bird Day.”

Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens is the only national park devoted to protecting a diversity of aquatic plants. It serves as a serene environment for recreation, reflection, and environmental discovery. Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens is located at 1550 Anacostia Ave NE, Washington, D.C.
