Tickets are available on a first come/first served basis and can only be purchased in-person at the site the day of the climb. There are no advance ticket sales.

Children must be at least 42” tall, and children under 12 must be escorted by a person at least 16 years old.

Superintendent Hallac invites members of the local Outer Banks communities and park visitors to tour/climb the lighthouses at no charge on opening day, Friday, April 21. Free tickets will be available on a first-come, first-served basis and can only be obtained in-person, that day, on-site.

Full Moon Tours of the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse will be offered on June 9, July 9, August 7, and September 6. Tickets can be purchased on www.recreation.gov starting at 10 a.m. three days prior to each tour date. Normal climbing restrictions apply. You must have established an active account on www.recreation.gov before you can finalize a ticket purchase.

Support National Parks Traveler

Your support for the National Parks Traveler comes at a time when news organizations are finding it hard, if not impossible, to stay in business. Traveler's work is vital. For nearly two decades we've provided essential coverage of national parks and protected areas. With the Trump administration’s determination to downsize the federal government, and Interior Secretary Doug Burgum’s approach to public lands focused on energy exploration, it’s clear the Traveler will have much to cover in the months and years ahead. We know of no other news organization that provides such broad coverage of national parks and protected areas on a daily basis. Your support is greatly appreciated.
