High, swift waters claimed a backcountry traveler in Denali National Park and Preserve when she tried to ford a stream.

Park officials said KC Boehly, 28, of Seattle, and a friend had spent two nights in the park's backcountry and were heading back to the Denali Park Road on Thursday when they had to ford a tributary of Stony Creek.

The campers made two unsuccessful attempts to cross the stream, "each time moving farther upstream as they tried to find a safer crossing. On a third attempt the victim fell into the water and was swept downstream," a park release said. "Several days of rain in the area have caused the park’s creeks and rivers to rise, and the swift moving water has made crossings very dangerous."

Crews in a National Park Service contract helicopter found the woman's body Friday morning.
