Acadia National Park To Open Loop Road This Friday

You'll be able to navigate Acadia National Park via the park's Loop Road beginning this Friday.

And the Hulls Cove Visitor Center will open on Sunday with full services. Hours will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day. For those who cannot walk the 52 steps to the visitor center, there is an accessible entrance. When entering from Route 3, this entrance is reached by going straight at the four way stop instead of turning right into the visitor center parking lot.

The visitor center offers a short introductory film about Acadia, a large 3-D map of Mt. Desert Island, park pass sales, book and map sales and comprehensive information on park activities, including the hiking and biking trails and ranger led programs. Also opening on May 19 will be the road to Echo Lake and the Thompson Island picnic area.

The Cadillac Mountain summit road and the Thompson Island Information Center opened on May 11. All the dirt roads in the park will open on June 3 this year.

The information office at park headquarters on Route 233 will close to the public on May 19 and reopen when Hulls Cove Visitor Center closes in the fall. All park passes and hangtags can be obtained at Hulls Cove Visitor Center.

At this time, all hiking trails are open with the exception of four where peregrine falcons are displaying nesting activity. They are the Precipice, Orange and Black, Valley Cove, and Jordan Cliffs trails.
