Apostle Islands Lighthouse To Help Keep Tabs On Weather And Water Quality

The Ashland Harbor Breakwater Light, which only just recently fell under the auspices of Apostle Islands National Lakeshore in Wisconsin, is getting an expanded role. Not only will the light help ships navigate in that corner of Lake Superior but it also will play a role in monitoring the weather and water quality.

Archaeological Survey Coming To Little Round Top In Gettysburg National Military Park

Gettysburg National Military Park is planning a prescribed burn on the 52 acres on the west slope of Little Round Top this spring. National Park Service regional fire management specialists will assist the park with the prescribed fire, whose purpose is to help maintain the open fields and meadows of the Gettysburg battlefield by reducing woody vegetation without the use of chemical or labor-intensive mowing or mechanical hand trimming

Fight Over New National Monuments In Utah Grows

A battle over the future of two national monuments in Utah appears to only be getting started, with the state's congressmen determined to see the new Bears Ears National Monument decommissioned and the decades old Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument reduced in size. Countering their efforts, gear manufacturer Patagonia has launched a campaign to have Americans flood Utah Gov. Gary Herbert's office with phone calls in support of the monuments.
