Trump Administration Embraces 7-Mile-Long String Of Transmission Towers Across James River

A 7-mile-long string of electrical transmission towers that would march across the James River within sight of historic Jamestowne and Colonial National Historical Park would cause "severe and unacceptable damage to this historically important area and the irreplaceable and iconic resources within it," according to former National Park Service Director Jon Jarvis.

High-Tech Irrigation System Will Keep Historic Gateway To The White House Green

The National Park Service is bringing the beautification of the lawn and gardens of Lafayette Park into the digital age. The seven-acre park just north of the White House will soon be served by a high-tech, water-saving irrigation system that includes intelligent sensors that adjust to evaporation rates and weather conditions like rain or freezing temperatures.

Hiker-Biker Shuttles Gearing Up In Glacier National Park

Beginning on May 13 in Glacier National Park in Montana the spring hiker-biker shuttle that began last year will once again be available on the west side of the park. The shuttle will run on the weekends (and Memorial Day) and will stop at the Apgar Visitor Center, Lake McDonald Lodge, and Avalanche Creek (once the Going-to-the-Sun Road is open to Avalanche Creek).

Interior Secretary Zinke Kicks Off His Monumental Listening Tour

Flanked by banners promoting public lands and how they "sustain the nation," Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke arrived in Utah on Sunday to begin his review of national monuments established over the past two decades with a promise not to recommend the abolishment of any monument to President Trump. The secretary did not, however, promise not to recommend a reduction in the size of any monument.

Nearly 30 national monuments, from Bears Ears National Monument in Utah and Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument in Maine to Papahanaumokuakea National Monument in the Pacific and Northeast Canyons and Seamounts in the Atlantic Ocean, are going to be studied by the Interior Department to determine whether adequate public comment was taken into consideration before they were designated by Presidents Obama, Bush, and Clinton.
