Learning About the Volcanic Plumbing System at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park

This video explains the process that takes lava to the Pacific Ocean at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Hawaii Volcano Observatory photo by R. Hoblitt.

One of the more spectacular sights in the National Park System is at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park when red-hot lava streams into the Pacific Ocean.

Visit the park at night when the lava is pouring into the ocean and you'll be treated to quite the show.

To help visitors understand this process, the National Park Service and U.S. Geological Survey have produced this short video.
