Yellowstone Readying for Winter

If you haven't already made it to Yellowstone this year, well, perhaps you should start planning a winter trip.
Word has come down from the management at Mammoth Hot Springs that Yellowstone is nearing the end of its short fall season. While the temporary visitor center at Old Faithful won't close until 5 p.m. on November 5th, most of the general stores already have closed for the season, and the store at Old Faithful shuts down this Sunday. Also, the Old Faithful Snow Lodge shuts down on Sunday, October 22nd.
Thinking of camping? The Madison Campground closes for the winter on October 29th, Slough Creek shuts down on Halloween, and the Lewis Lake Campground closes November 5th.
All interior park roads will close to wheeled traffic on Monday, November 6th at 8 a.m., although weather conditions could force an earlier closure.
If winter arrives on schedule, the roads will reopen to over-snow vehicles on Wednesday, December 20th.
