Hike The Parks | Best Day Hikes, Walks And Sights In Sequoia And Kings Canyon National Parks

Author : Scott Turner
Published : 2020-04-01

Just in time for the spring hiking season comes Hike The Parks | Best Day Hikes, Walks, and Sights in Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks.

This is just the latest hiking title from Scott Turner and Mountaineers Books. He previously has cranked out similar titles to Joshua Tree and Bryce Canyon national parks. As you can imagine, he has the task down.

The nearly 240-page softcover book -- scheduled to be released April 1 -- is compact, at 4 inches by 7 inches, and so easy to carry on the trail. There are full color photos for each hike to give you an idea of what you'll encounter, and the typical need-to-know information: Trailhead directions, distance of hike, elevation gain, difficulty, USGS topo map listing, and GPS coordinates.

Turner also tosses in his opinion of whether the hike is good for youngsters, whether there's a restroom nearby, and if you can tackle the hike in winter with snowshoes under your boots.

There are maps of the hikes he details, though not topo maps. Rather, they're general area maps that reflect the trailhead and where the hike takes you.

To help with your trip planning, the book is divided into sections of these two majestic parks: the Mineral King Valley, Foothills area, Giant Forest, Wolverton, Lodgepole, and Dorst Creek, Redwood Canyon, Grant Grove, and Kings Canyon.

As I noted with his past titles, it would have been nice to have a few blank pages in this guide for you to make your own notes. Still, if you're simply heading out for a day or a weekend, this guide will get you out into nature in the parks.
