Sunrise Over Fossil Hills Trail, Agate Fossil Beds National Monument

In the early 1900s, paleontologists unearthed the Age of Mammals when they found full skeletons of extinct Miocene mammals in the hills of Nebraska -- species previously only known through fragments.

At the same time, an age of friendship began between rancher James Cook and Chief Red Cloud of the Lakota.

These two unprecedented events are preserved and protected here... at Agate Fossil Beds.

"Blue Hour" And A Full Moon Over Burns Basin Overlook in Badlands National Park, South Dakota

Badlands National Park in South Dakota is dotted with many view areas. Some of these areas (like the Burns Basin Overlook) are prefect not only sunrise, but also sunset and that time just before sunrise and just after sunset, known as the "blue hour," when the sky and landscape are bathed with blue, pink, and purple. You might also see a full moon and perhaps even the atmospheric phenomenon known as the "belt of Venus."

According to the National Park Service, "The Natchez Trace National Scenic Trail is five sections of hiking trail running roughly parallel to the 444-mile long Natchez Trace Parkway scenic motor road through Alabama, Mississippi, and Tennessee. The foot trails total more than 60 miles and offer opportunities to explore wetlands, swamps, hardwood forest, and the history of the area."
