Shenandoah National Park will celebrate humanity's connection to the universe during the third annual Night Sky Festival set for August 10-12. Park rangers, National Aeronautics and Space Administration Solar System Ambassadors, amateur astronomers and a veteran NASA astronaut will be on hand to encourage visitors to value dark skies through a variety of special programs and activities.

A Virginia man who used spray paint, paint balls, and marbles to vandalize signs, structures, equipment and vehicles in Shenandoah National Park and along the Blue Ridge Parkway has been sent to prison for 11 months and ordered to pay nearly $15,500 in restitution.

The Shenandoah National Park Association is sponsoring the 2018 Resource Seminars in Shenandoah National Park. These seminars provide participants with the opportunity to get to know their national park a little more personally through in-depth, hands-on experiences. This year there are five seminars that feature Shenandoah National Park as a place for inspiration, recreation, and renewal.

They were not supposed to be there, but they were: More than 100 brown-hooded, white-breasted seabirds, along with four nests, at chilly Channel Islands National Park off California's coast. This was not balmy Baja California, which normally is the northern-most range for tropics-loving Brown boobies, but rather a windswept chain of islands with average high temperatures in the mid-60s and water temperatures in the 50s.
