The rental car was taking a beating so we decided to turn around. Recent rains had eroded the road and created serious ruts in the shortcut we were taking from Mojave National Preserve into the new Castle Mountain National Monument. After the car went up on three wheels climbing out of the last arroyo, we slapped high fives for successfully retracing our track back to the main road.

While the Trump administration says none, according to the National Parks Conservation Association, the park advocacy group says those projects shouldn't fly beneath oversight. And so NPCA has gone to court to block an Interior Department decision to allow a pipeline project to cross Mojave Trails National Monument.

Repair Work Will Close Railroad Crossings In Mojave National Preserve In March

Railroad crossings in Mojave National Preserve in California will be closed intermittently in March so that Union Pacific Railroad can upgrade the tracks. The closings will interrupt through traffic on Kelbaker, Cedar Canyon (Mojave Road), and Ivanpah Roads, and the unpaved portion of Cima Road.
