NPS Recognized For Efforts To Contain Invasive Quagga Mussels

Since 2017, the National Park Service has redoubled its efforts to work with states in the West to contain quagga mussels through the Safeguarding the West from Invasive Mussels initiative. These efforts have not gone unnoticed, and in early January 2019 the Colorado River Fish and Wildlife Council sent a letter to the Department of the Interior recognizing specific National Park Servicestaff and parks for their tireless efforts to manage aquatic invasive species.

Woman Sentenced To Prison For Child Abuse In Lake Mead National Recreation Area

Lake Mead National Recreation Area rangers stopped a woman at Lake Mohave from submerging a child under water, providing the victim with immediate medical care. Following an investigation by the National Park Service Investigative Services Branch, the woman in question has been sentenced to prison for child abuse.

The National Park Service is seeking public comment on an environmental assessment for a General Management Plan Amendment to address low-water conditions at Lake Mead National Recreation Area.
