Great Basin National Park

Mather Overlook, Great Basin National Park

Many national parks have some sort of overlook, view area, or highway honoring Stephen Tyng Mather, first director of the National Park Service. Mather Overlook at Great Basin National Park in Nevada "offers a great view of Doso Doyabi and Wheeler Peak," with views looking toward the vast expanse of Utah beyond along the sides of the short gravel road to the overlook.

National Parks Traveler Checklist: Great Basin National Park

Great Basin National Park, known for it’s groves of bristlecone pine, fantastic cave formations, and starry night sky, is a place where you can listen to quaking aspen sighing in the wind and the night call of an unseen bird. It takes a little preparation for a visit to this park, though, and this Traveler’s Checklist should help you with those plans.

National Parks Quiz And Trivia #35: The Waterfall Edition

Waterfalls soothe us with their sounds, inspire our imaginations by their very presence, and, even refresh us, on occasion, with their cool spray. From the Pacific Northwest to the Eastern Seaboard, these cascades if water – named and unnamed – populate the National Park System. See how much you know about national park waterfalls, and maybe learn a little something, too.

Formations Seen In A Part Of Lehman Caves, Great Basin National Park

"Lehman Caves may only be entered with a guided tour. Cave tours are offered daily, year-round, except for Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Year's Day. Park rangers lead all tours and explain the history, ecology, and geology of the caves. Two different guided tours of Lehman Caves are offered -- the Lodge Room Tour and the Grand Palace Tour. Cave tours regularly sell out. Reservations through Recreation.gov are recommended."
