National Park Week Quiz #4 Revealed: Four Letters Unscrambled

National Park Week Quiz #4 required you to identify a national park using a series of clues that had to be dealt with in sequence.

The answer is Palo Alto Battlefield National Historical Park in southern Texas.

Here is how the clues take you to the answer:

(1) Acadia National Park in Maine is “a park that has a loop drive and a mountain with a car’s name” (Cadillac Mountain, that is).

(2) Lassen Volcanic National Park in northern California is “a park that has an active volcano and boiling mud pots.”

(3) Petrified Forest National Park in eastern Arizona is “a park that has famous fossils and a lodge built on Homestead Act land” (the Painted Desert Inn).

(4) Olympic National Park in coastal Washington is “a park with tide pools and mountain goats.”

(5) The first four letters of the park names are A-L-P-O. (Why does that remind me of dog food?)

(6) Rearranged, the four letters spell P-A-L-O, as in Palo Alto Battlefield National Historical Park.

Kudos to the Traveler readers who solved this one: Eric, OutInTheStiks, EEW, viewmtn, Anon 11:04, KevinM, Ken, Eric Nelson, tomp2, celbert, andcla03, and toothdoctor. All are eligible for Traveler’s National Park Week prize drawing and a chance to win a National Geographic Trails Illustrated Map for the national park of their choice.
