Canaveral National Seashore is proposing to increase fees for camping and attending Turtle Watch programs/NPS file

Canaveral National Seashore in Florida is planning to increase camping fees as well as the cost to attend a nighttime sea turtle program and is seeking public comments on the proposals.

As proposed, the increases would take effect May 1.

“Canaveral National Seashore utilizes its recreational fee program to focus on projects that enhance the visitor experience,” said Superintendent Carmen Thomson. “We use the funds to replace deteriorated fire pits and picnic tables on the island campsites and Turtle Watch fees help with funding seasonal park rangers to present these special after-hours program. The funds we collect are essential to an investment in services and improvements that are necessary to serve the hundreds of visitors that take advantage of these programs each year.”

While Canaveral has long charged a fee for the nighttime Turtle Watches, the tickets are now being offered on recreation.gov. The Sea Turtle Watch takes place in both districts of the seashore (Titusville and New Smyrna Beach), beginning at 8 p.m..
