Springtime weather can be fickle in Yellowstone/NPS, Jacob W. Frank

With some interior roads scheduled to open to the public Friday at Yellowstone National Park, visitors should be prepared for fickle weather/NPS file, Jacob W. Frank

Sunny weather was in the forecast for Friday at Yellowstone National Park, which fits perfectly with the plan to open some of the interior roads into the park at 8 a.m.

And, to celebrate National Park Week, entrance fees are being waived on Saturday in Yellowstone and across the National Park System. If weather permits, the following roads were scheduled to open Friday morning to the public:

* West Entrance to Old Faithful

* Mammoth Hot Springs to Old Faithful (via Norris)

* Norris to Canyon Village

* North Entrance to Mammoth Hot Springs to Northeast Entrance (open year-round)

Road conditions can change quickly. Springtime in Yellowstone

Springtime in Yellowstone means fewer crowds, opportunities for hiking at lower elevations, and skiing or snowshoeing at higher elevations. Wildlife viewing highlights this time of year include bison calving, bears recently emerged from dens, bull elk antlers in velvet, and the arrival of migratory birds.
