Donate to help Friends of Acadia land a $15,000 matching grant to put to work in Acadia National Park/NPS, Kristi Rugg

Anyone who's been following the national parks in recent years -- OK, a decade or two if not longer -- knows that the National Park Service is chronically short of money to take care of these incredible places. That's where groups like Friends of Acadia come in, and why you should donate to them this week, regardless if you plan to claim a tax deduction.

Friends of Acadia, which helps with trail maintenance, ski grooming, teen education in the park, and more, has a chance to raise $30,000 this week alone for its work in the park. Through Friday, the group is trying to raise $15,000, and if it does, it will receive a $15,000 matching gift.

Through mid-day Sunday the campaign was more than halfway towards its goal, with $8,185 donated. Let's help Friends of Acadia meet this challenge grant. Donate at this site.

Not to put in a plug but I have found the Friends of Acadia to be one of the best groups across the system to support.  They really do a great job working with the NPS and with the community.  This group is awesome!!
