Padre Island National Seashore Bracing For Hurricane Harvey

Share

With Hurricane Harvey bearing down on the Texas coastline, Padre Island National Seashore has closed in advance of the storm.

"The park closure may last several days, depending on the severity of the weather and the impacts on park infrastructure," the park said on its Facebook page.

At the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, forecasters Friday morning warned that "Harvey is expected to be a major hurricane when it makes landfall tonight, bringing life-threatening storm surge, rainfall, and wind hazards to portions of the Texas coast."

"Life-threatening storm surge flooding could reach heights of 6 to 12 feet above ground level at the coast between the north entrance of the Padre Island National Seashore and Sargent," they added.
