Body Found In Shenandoah National Park; Could Be Missing Virginia Woman

Share

Remains of a woman, possibly those of a 31-year-old Virginia woman missing since last week, were found Thursday afternoon in Shenandoah National Park.

Park Service and Virginia State Police personnel had been searching for Nicole K. Mittendorff, of Woodbridge, Virginia, since Saturday, when her Mini Cooper was found in the national park. Around 2 p.m. Thursday searchers found female remains more than a mile from the Whiteoak Canyon parking area and about 330 yards from the trail in what they described as "treacherous rocky terrain."

A press conference was planned for Thursday evening.

Ms. Mittendorff was last in contact with her family on April 13, according to a park release. Authorities had said that physical and digital evidence collected during the search suggested nothing suspicious about her disappearance.
