Rocky Mountain National Park isn't the only unit of the National Park System that's been closed by floodwaters. Down in New Mexico, Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument remained closed Monday as a result of heavy precipitation the past few days.

Re-opening of the monument and its visitor center is expected sometime this week when water levels recede, heavy rains subside, and any needed maintenance work along a portion of N.M. State Highway 15 has been conducted.

N.M. 15, which provides access to Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument and Gila National Forest's nearby recreation facilities, has been temporarily closed by the New Mexico Department of Transportation as of Sunday. The closure is immediately north of Doc Campbell's Post in Gila Hot Springs. Doc Campbell's remains open for business.

Campgrounds in the area that include the Grapevine, Lower Forks, and Lower and Upper Scorpion remain temporarily closed. Upper Forks campground remains open.

You can contact the Gila Visitor Center between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Mountain Daylight Time at 575-536-9461 for further information.
