You'll soon be able to spread the word of Shenandoah National Park's birthday thanks to the U.S. Postal Service, which is issuing a commemorative stamp to mark the occasion.

On Saturday the Post Office staff in Luray, Virginia, be on hand between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. at Big Meadows in the park to issue a commemorative cancellation of the stamp. You can bring your own envelopes for cancellation or purchase one of the special commemorative envelopes that have been designed for this celebration.

The Shenandoah National Park Association, a non-profit organization that supports the interpretive and educational activities of the park, has produced five commemorative envelopes to make available during the celebration.  Each envelope includes a beautiful linen-like image of the park, a forever pine cone stamp, the official 75th Anniversary cancellation, and is placed in a clear plastic protective sleeve.  Images available are of a black bear, a fall color scene, a waterfall, a view of Skyline Drive from Stony Man Mountain, and a historic black and white photo of President Franklin D. Roosevelt dedicating the Park on July 3, 1936.

A limited number of each design was printed and will sold at the Park’s re-dedication at a cost of $6.99 each. They will also be available from the www.snpbooks.org and the www.CelebrateShenandoah.org websites.

For more information contact the Shenandoah National Park Association at 540-999-3582 or email the Association at [email protected].
